Located in the area known as Hudishibana at the island's northwestern tip, the California Lighthouse is named after the ill-fated ship the Californian. The Californian was traveling in the same waters as Titanic when the ship hit the iceberg and sent out a distress call. Sadly the Californian radio operator was off duty and the ship did not receive the call in time to save any of Titanic's crew or passengers.
A few years later the Californian sank in rough seas off the Aruba coast. As a tribute to the ship, the lighthouse was named after it. The wreckage of the Californian is also a popular place for scuba divers.
